This is Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but not as you know it! The wine maker Mike Patterson has rejected the usual, over-the-top aromatic style common to most Marlborough sauvignons, which is akin to being hit over the head with a large, over ripe gooseberry while being liberally sprinkled with cat pee (sorry, but its true), for a more elegant and refined approach. The vines come from a biodynamically cultivated, single vineyard in the hills of the Wairau Valley. The lees are stirred to give body and texture but the yeasts are indigenous and additions in the cellar are kept to a minimum. Terroir takes precedence here over fruit intensity with fresh, elegant acidity and seductive flavours of elderflower and stone fruit that will keep you coming back for more.
