Gerard Marula is about as ‘boutique’ as a winery can get with a tiny 2.6 hectares spread over three sites. He works in tune with nature rather than against it employing Organic farming techniques, indigenous yeasts and an absolute minimum of additions with just a tiny amount of sulphur added at bottling to preserve the wine. The grapes for this wine, almost a field blend, are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon with some Grolleau and Chenin Blanc and come from his site ‘Haut Midi’ in Touraine. The wine has beautiful, energetic black and red fruit flavours with hints of smoky graphite from the Cab Franc. There are touches of spice and the tannins are fine and soft leading to a juicy but smooth drinking experience.
