Menetou-Salon Blanc 'Les Morogues' 2015, Henri Pelle, Loire, France

Menetou-Salon used to play second fiddle to its more esteemed cousin Sancerre and once upon a time you could find amazing wines for next to nothing. Alas, now the secret is out and the prices have crept up, but the wines are thankfully still amazing. The vineyards of Henri Pelle sit on classic Kimmeridgean clay-limestone marl, imbuing them with stunning bracing freshness and acidity. With delicate aromas of gorse and broom to more concentrated flavours of grapefruit, blackcurrant and lemon pith all held together with slatey, shell-like minerality, this is a wine that shouts out for mussel and oyster!
