Black Slate, Conreria d'Scala Dei, Priorat, Spain

A noted American importer sought to display the breadth and qualities of Priorat and its subdivisions by bottling wines from its different subregions. Here, the village of Escaladei, has 100 yr old grenache growing on black slate and produces some of the most sought after wines in the region. The wine is more developed than one might expect and is certainly ready, plenty of weight and some tart freshness to marry to food.
