Bergerie de la Bastide is a joint venture between a negociant/grower, Stephane Vedeau, and a professor of oenology from Montpellier, Claude Serra, both of whom are great believers in terroir, a concept usually ignored at this level of wine making. What you get is wines that express their origins at really great prices. The red is a savoury blend of Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Merlot with flavours of cranberries, cherries, red currant cassis and vanilla that burst from the glass. It is light, clean and fresh on the palate, the perfect every day, quaffing wine.
